Mevagissey now under new management08 December 2010 On Friday 17th December, our Mevagissey shop was sold to new owners.. With our other two shops in Launceston and Bodmin, we were no longer able to commit the resources necessary to provide our Mevagissey shop with the day to day management it required, and reluctantly made the decision to pass it on. We have really enjoyed our time in Mevagissey, meeting locals and visitors alike. We look forward to future visits to the village, only as day visitors rather than for work! The new owners intend to retain the shop as it is, but have some exciting plans for improvements and an increase in the product range. The shop will conitnue to carry the Gillard's name into the foreseeable future. We would like to thank everyone who shopped with us in Mevagissey for their support, and hope you will continue to support the new owners. We would also like to thank Marion for managing the shop for us and without whom we would have had to sell up many months ago. Also thanks to Ben and Sarah who looked after the shop for us at weekends. Gillard's Launceston and Bodmin will continue to trade as normal and are unaffected by the sale of Mevagissey.

Christmas Shop01 December 2010 This week will see our Christmas stock arriving in our shops, starting with Launceston. We have some great items this year and are really excited about our range which includes many things we have never had before. How about a giant Gourmet Jelly Bean machine with a cast metal base, glass globe and 600g of gourmet jelly beans. £22.99. We also stock a range of the Gourmet beans in various flavours so you can refill your machine when it is empty. Or how about a chocolate pizza. Or maybe a chocolate pasty? We also have caramelised peanuts, chocolate gift sets (tools, cars, aeroplanes, horses, make up sets and many others), all made from quality German chocolate. In addition we have our normal popular range of quality confectionery, including Candy Canes, Sugar Mice and chocolate gold coins (British Victorian coins, not Euros). Some of these items will be uploaded to our website over the next few days, but many of the limited stock items will only be available from our shops in Launceston and Bodmin, so call in and see what we have to offer. Our Launceston shop is open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm Bodmin is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm
Geocaching comes to Mevagissey30 November 2010 Geocaching, the high tech treasure hunting game is being played in Mevagissey. There are currently three hidden 'caches' in the village, plus a bonus cache on the outskirts (but you have to find the other three before you can find the bonus). The game has been played in the village since February 2010, and has attracted over 100 caching teams to visit the village and walk around following their GPS (Global Positioning System) devices.
The Mevagissey caches have been placed by Paul & Jeremy Loft, owners of Gillard's Sweet Shop in River Street, and are maintained by them. If all of the above makes no sense to you whatsoever, head over to the Geocaching website to find out more. It's free to join and there is a world of great places to explore for the whole family and literally thousands of hidden caches to be found on your travels. From film pots hidden at the roadside, to huge metal cans hidden on the furthest reaches of the moors, there is a hunt for everyone. The Mevagissey caches, all with a 'Lovejoy' theme, can be found here Have fun !
Gluten Free & Vegetarian Options01 February 2010 We offer a range of Gluten Free & vegetarian sweets, and are currently updating our website to show which sweets are gluten free and/or suitable for vegetarians.
